Papilio canadensis
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail: colourful large swallowtail, formerly considered a sub-species of the P. glaucus, but now elevated to full species status. Wingspan of up to 80mm (3.5"). This is the female of the species. The males lack the obvious colourful blue/orange splash on the wings.
Widespread. Common visitor to garden and wildflowers. Eggs are laid on plants of the carrot family (e.g. Queen Anne's Lace).

These are a very allusive species. I have seen several in my backyard habitat, however, when I get within 20 yards of them, they fly away, and fly far away at that.
