Spotting

Description:

Very active moth 7-9mm long when at rest. Wings are black and much longer than moth. Wings held sharply tented over the body. Wings have flared rear with a spot at the beginning of the flare. Antenna are striped, (pale and black) project forward and are almost twice the body length

Habitat:

it was flying back and forward to a light by a garden as though it did not want to spend too long in the lit area

Notes:

I cannot see a place to start looking for the species. The antenna throw me completely

You're right. Adeliidae was a crazy idea. Those antennae should be key to an ID.

The antenna seem right but the flared upright wings and the mouth parts seem wrong to me (who knows nothing!)

Fairy moths - Adeliidae? It's those incredible antennae.
