California Spiny Chiton

Nuttallina californica

Description:

I'm not 100 percent on this ID. It was covered in a grayish algae and it was eating a pink coralline algae (a favorite food for chitons). About 8 cm long.

Habitat:

Spotted in a tide pool at Tongue Point. Usually found in crevices or depressions, under corallines, or in between mussels and barnacles; in exposed to moderately exposed areas.
