The distinct white edge on the wing becomes a distinct white patch when it's in flight. This is a popular gamebird in the area and their numbers have increased because of regulated hunting.
Dense Texas ebony and citrus groves provide the nesting cover. Otherwise it's found throughout the south Texas brushland.
