Mottled Duck

Anas fulvigula

Description:

Female Florida Mottled Duck - the beak of the female is mottled in color unlike the male's which is mostly yellow. Their bright orange feet and legs are distinctive.

Habitat:

Inland fresh water canal by an abandoned golf course in Boca Raton, FL

Notes:

They seem to stick with the same mate - her mate is shown in back in the second photo. Both male and female guard their territory from other mottled ducks with a lot of feather pulling, quacking, chasing with their heads lowered and generally a lot of drama. They don't seem to mind other ducks and birds.
