Sycamore Tussock Moth

Halysidota harrisii

Description:

Hairy white caterpillar with long yellow and white pencils (tufts).

Habitat:

Found on London plane tree in city park; took home to rear into adult moth.

Notes:

The caterpillar escaped its container on my desk and started crawling all over my books. I didn't pose it on this butterfly book, I just got a lucky photo as it wandered along!

Could you please add this to my mission, Moths of the Americas? Thanks!

Thank you! The caterpillar is much more interesting than the adult moth of this species.
