Description:

The silvery checkerspot is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae with distinctive markings.

Habitat:

Spotted visiting wildflowers at Bell Slough Wildlife Management Area in Arkansas. Deciduous forest with open meadows.

Notes:

Larvae feed on members of the Asteraceae (daisy family) - especially Wingstem (Verbesina) and Sunflower (Helianthus), but also Aster and Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia).
