Wattle Tick Scale Insect

Cryptes baccatus

Description:

1cm brown globes with no wings or legs, sucking mouth-parts but not visible. May be white or pinkish globes present

Habitat:

Acacia branches (probably Sydney Golden Wattle) of several bushes throughout a wood on a remnant coastal ridge. Other smaller cup shaped scale insects also present in large numbers and both seem to be protected by ants
