A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Lophyrotoma sp.
A dramatic looking sawfly with bright reddish-orange thoracic patches and abdomen. The abdomen showed short bands of black near the tip. The antennae, head, thorax and wings were a glossy black, making this a striking insect in the sun and amongst the bright white flowers.
Spotted feeding on tea-tree flowers
This has been identified by Bernhard Jacobi at the genus level only so I shall leave it at that.
Suborder Symphyta
