Golden-tailed Spiny Ant

Polyrhachis ammon

Description:

Less than 1cm long, black ant with glistening golden abdomen and golden hairs, also four large spines on thorax, not an aggressive ant. Lives in colonies underground and scavenges for food above ground, eats animal and plant material.

Habitat:

Found throughout many areas of Australia, often in previously disturbed ground and in urban areas, in many environments except the very wettest and most arid.
