Blue Black Spider Wasp

Description:

Medium sized black wasps, often with orange abdominal markings. Females typically hunt intently on forest floor, flicking wings. This wasp was darting around through the leaves.

Habitat:

Open woods along a stream.

Notes:

Eastern species can be found in deciduous forests. Adults take nectar. Larva are provisioned with wolf and funnel spiders.
