Dark-eyed junco

Junco hyemalis

Description:

A male dark-eyed junco distinguished from the female with his black head and neck. The female is similar but the head and neck is not as vivid - more of a dark grey. The juncos are so fun to watch, they are very expressive with their actions. They stay together in family units and fly around in flocks, constantly keeping in contact with one another.

Habitat:

Spotted in the backyard. They are year round residents here in Washington.
