A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Anthochaera carunculata
One of Australia's largest honeyeaters, nomadic, often alone or in small groups, follows the flowering of Australia's plants where it collects insects that feed on the nectar, Red Wattlebirds also sip nectar. The distinctive red wattles that hang under the neck help to distinguish it from similar species and grow with age.
Found in gardens, woodlands, heath country, wherever flowers are in bloom throughout south east and west of Australia extending mid way up the east and west coast.
Note the beak full of insects collected.
