Honey Mushroom

Armillaria mellea

Description:

Small, yellow-capped mushrooms. Gilled. Yellow ring on stem. Grow in clusters. Pathogenic and parasitic of hardwoods and occasionally conifers. These were found growing out of leaf litter near the base of a tree (probably from rotting roots).

Habitat:

Temperate forest. Rockwood County Park, Virginia.
