Tachinid Fly

Tachina fera

Description:

Size of house fly, with conspicuous round orange abdomen, adorned with central blackish stripe.

Habitat:

A heath just in between an estuary, (protected) dunes and (protected) rocky shores.

Notes:

This was a very interesting place, and a popular beach right on the way of Long Distance Pathways (large network of marked pathways used for trekking). The beach itself is adjacent to two highly protected and very interesting natural areas. The first one the dune system at the estuary of a small river, protected for its rich wildlife; especially birds - in particular, these dunes are the nidification area for Sand Martins; and therefore part of the area is totally forbidden to entry. Second protected area is the Natural protected Geological reserve, immediately adjacent to the former and to the beach; and its scenery is spectacular.
