Spider wasp

Description:

About 6-8 millimeters, black with a blue sheen as shown. Note relatively short, thick antennae, a hallmark of the genus.

Habitat:

Found the wasp resting on a dried flower head in a vast open field of degraded shortgrass prairie with sunflower, yucca, prickly-pear cacti, and scattered elm trees.

Notes:

This genus of spider wasps is kleptoparasitic on other spider wasps.
