Stelgidopteryx serripennis
This cute fledgling was still learning to fly. I had a lot of fun watching it hop from limb to limb. You can see Mom and Dad anxiously watching in pic 4. There were several of these and other species of swallows on this large fallen tree and nearby.
Spotted on a large fallen tree at the edge of a estuary - lagoon at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.

cute!
Ha ha - so true Mark! Thank you for your comments.
Nice series Brian. Probably a good time to fledge - so fluffy a crash won't hurt. ;)
Thank you for the nomination and comments. Maria - I feel the same way. It's changed my view of them as well.
Very nice spotting! I always think of these swallows as small and sleek; seeing that fledgling looking like a puffed up Carolina wren has given me a new view of them.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated Brian!
Sweet!
