I have two lousy shots here. I am not sure what type of insect this is. It measured about 2" long. This is possibly a Pazius obtusas.

esta es mejor, yo lo clasificaría como Pazius obtusus por que es el unico de este genero que se encuentra en Costa Rica

I would like to see and know all the species of insects of the order mecóptera that exist in costa rica since many are endemic and also are my favorite animal.
The Costa Rica species are:
Bittacus banksi, Bittacus disternum,
Bittacus panamensis,Bittacus spatulatus, Kalobittacus demissus,
Kalobittacus inornatus, Pazius obtusus.
this is not a crane fly is a mecoptera (Bittacus ....)
