Bagworm

Description:

A common species of bagworm. It is named for it's larva is enclosed in a bag made of caterpillar silk. The size of this silk cocoon is about 25 mm in length but some can grow up to 50 mm in length. Since the caterpillars spend their whole larva life inside their silk enclosure, there is no need for caterpillar beauty so it looks very dull, the head and true legs are brown color and protected by hard exoskeleton while it's long pale white abdomen is very soft. Oh, in case you are wondering, it is suspended in midair with a silk which is called ballooning, a common thing which many caterpillars and sawfly larvae do.

Habitat:

Deciduous and evergreen trees in Uncle Tan Bed&Breakfast, Sepilok road, Sandakan, Sabah.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy : 50m diameter.
