Spittlebug

Family: Aphrophoridae G. sp.

Description:

This hopper was facing the ground just below the flowering part of a piece of grass.

Habitat:

Small clearing in a wooded area.

Notes:

There were several of them presenting with this behaviour in a small clearing. I had to bend the grass over in order to take the shots without my flash interfering with the grass, so the orientation is not natural.
