Long Legged Tachinid Fly

Cholomyia inaequipes

Description:

A marvelous little fly with elongated legs, especially the 2nd pair. About 1 cm in length. The wing venation and thick abdominal spines made it clearly a Tachinid. These are parasitic on weevils. In the second picture, it has lowered its mouthparts to sponge something off of my finger. The tarsi are also interesting, with a feathery like claw structure. Habitat:

Found on a wall at night under a street light. Semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.
