Long Legged Tachinid Fly

Cholomyia inaequipes

Description:

A Tachinid Fly that is parasitic on weevil larvae, especially those of plums, apples and peaches, all fruit trees that are grown here in San Cristobal. I believe this is the same species as the one spotted recently (https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/13...) only a more newly emerged individual with brighter coloration. The very long 2nd pair of legs is characteristic of this genus.

Habitat:

Found in the garden, afternoon. Semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.
