Conocephalus brevipennis

Description:

Bright green body with a broad black stripe on the back of the head and protonum. Short, brownish wings. Short ovipositor, reddish brown ending in black. Ovipostior is shorter than the body.

Rural yard in the long grass.

Notes:

There were tons of these guys in the grass. The males were camera shy. I thought that they were crickets initially.

Karen, I can't tell you how many of these katydids were around but most of them were very flighty. I would get the camera close and they would hide around the other side of the blade of grass or flee. This female was chill enough for a few shots.
