A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Conura amoena
Small, yellow and black. Narrow, pointed, black tipped abdomen. Large top segment of rear leg. Extremely large middle segment of rear leg.
Found sleeping on the underside of a squash leaf.
Parasitic wasp. I was looking under squash leaves, this morning, looking for what was eating the leaves when I spotted this little beauty.

Thanks ChunXingWong. I certainly didn't look far enough. The narrow pointed abdomen on some Cuckoo bees got my attention.
But I sure did learn a lot about Cuckoo bees.
We used to have an amazing wasp specialist who would help out in identifications on the lesser known wasp species like this on PN. Unfortunately he left this world 2 years ago.

Hi Tom. This is in fact a Chalcid Wasp, Conura sp. These are parasitoid wasps which lay eggs on other insects. Very different from Leaf Cutting Cuckoo Bees.
