Uraba lugens
Very small caterpillars have appeared with spring on the young eucalyptus leaves. These have a 'raised head' (which is actually piled up skin from successive moults) and two rows of prominent yellow dots along the top along with much white setae.
Juvenile eucalyptus leaves seem to be a favourite. Open, dry sclerophyll eucalyptus forest.

Wow you're right about the dullness... they should stay as caterpillars. Good series to have though.
These are neat critters and make me think of a rattlesnake, keeping sections of their previous exuvia (exuvii?), but the tip of head rather than tip of tail. I grew some last year to check out the rather dull moth http://www.flickr.com/photos/66925960@N0...
