Vombatus ursinus
Common wombats are sturdy and built close to the ground. When fully grown they can reach anywhere between 80 and 130cm, and between 17 and 40kg. The wombats found on Tasmania and Flinders Island are often smaller than their mainland counterparts. It is distinguished from both Hairy-nosed wombats by the fact that it has a bald nose.
Marsupial lawn on Maria Island National Park.
This mother and her approximately year-old offspring were grazing behind the abandoned "Coffee Palace" (c. 1888) in the old Penitentiary grounds on the island. The youngster was clearly wanting to play and keep pawing at its mother, including, at one point climbing up on her back.

Mark, I know that there are plenty of joeys that ride on their mother's backs, but wombats aren't among them. So maybe yours was the plan. I really was surprised when it happened. Thanks kunzah.
Wow, so precious!
Perfect! Doona for one mattress for the other.
I know Shanna, I was extremely taken with them. Unfortunately Sukesih, Common wombats are plagued with mange, and outside National parks a lot of them are disease ridden and in very poor shape. So yes, it's wonderful to healthy plump families.
such a healthy and happy wombat family, lovely!
Nawwww, that is ADORABLE!!!!!!!
It's great when you have the opportunity to watch animals without disturbing them.
They look snugguly!
This was perhaps the cutest thing I've ever seen. They have very poor eyesight, so I had to sit perfectly still. My partner and I watched them for a good quarter-hour before they headed off for their burrow.
Sweet!
