Ruddy Shelduck

Tadorna ferruginea

Description:

I came across these two ducks at our local beach yesterday. They are quite a distinctive rusty brown colour with black beaks, creamy white colour on the top of their heads and the end of their wings, and black tail feathers.

Habitat:

There is an inlet from the sea that goes to a small marina and this is where I spotted these two. I regularly visit this area and have not seen any ducks like this here before, so I am not sure if they are on migration and stopped off here.
