Red maple seedling

Acer rubrum

Description:

Very short plant near a rose bush. Basically a straggler that snuck into a cultivated plant's pot. It's also known as swamp maple or soft maple. It has the potential to easily reach 100 feet in height and provides excellent foliage (a delight for fall hikers).

Habitat:

Grows all over the northeastern US.

No. It doesn't look like any poison ivy I've seen although poison ivy leaf shape is variable. It actually looks like some type of tree seedling to me, possibly a maple.
