Family: Notodontidae (Prominent moths) An uncommon moth caterpillar. Length: 2 inches (50 mm) Attractive yellow and black stripes. First 3 photos in defensive position typical of datana moth caterpillars. Last photo before in relaxed position. Feeds on birch, blueberry, linden, sassafras to name a few.
Open woodlands near the Appalachian Trail.
