Common Kestrel - Faucon crécerelle

Falco tinnunculus

Description:

This little raptor is one of the most common birds of prey in rural Switzerland, together with the buzzard and the black kite. Many farmers now set up nest boxes for kestrels, as they provide a natural form of rodent control. Classified as Near Threatened, its population in Switzerland fluctuates between 3000 to 5000 pairs.

Habitat:

Rural, farmland and residual mixed coniferous/deciduous forest.

Notes:

Another raptor that stopped for a stop perch on the large oak tee opposite my house.
