Giant Leopard Moth Caterpillar

Description:

Family: Erebidae, Subfamily: Arctiinae, Tribe: Arctiini (Tiger Moths) A common moth larva. Black with long spikes (not harmful) with red stripes in between and red dots. Curled up in defensive position. Size: 2 inches (5.08 cm) Feeds on Deciduous tree leaves and low plants such as cherry, maple, sunflower and willow.

Habitat:

Open woodlands underneath logs and dead leaves.

Notes:

Because I found it in the dark woods, I brought it out in the sun and placed it on a random leaf I found next to it.
