Common Gartersnake

Thamnophis sirtalis

Description:

A young 9 inch long yellow and black patterned snake.

Habitat:

Found in a rural backyard along a fencerow between an open yard and woodland. This is my first common gartersnake found on my property!

Notes:

Because these snakes are often associated with human yards and gardens where they are beneficial for controlling pests, these snakes are often mistakenly called garden snakes.
