Fun fact! Few animals are as well equipped to cope with the recent cold snap in North America as well as the wood frog. A new study in The Journal of Experimental Biology revealed the astounding ability of Lithobates sylvaticus to survive for weeks with an incredible two-thirds of its body water completely frozen. During their period of frozen winter hibernation, wood frogs stop breathing, their hearts stop beating, and their bodily functions from metabolic activity to waste production grind to a virtual halt for days to weeks at a time. What’s more, the frogs are likely to endure multiple freeze/thaw episodes over the course of a winter. https://www.facebook.com/projectnoah/pho...

Very nice Lisa! I hope we get to see our wood frogs up here in the northeast pretty soon. Right now they're under 2 to 3 feet of snow.
