Bean Pod Borer Moth

Maruca vitrata

Description:

This is a moth that i found on the wall of my house. This moth has brown forewings with silvery white patches. The hindwings are mainly white with an irregular brown border. The size of this moth is about 10 mm in length, and its wingspan is about 20 mm.

Habitat:

- Spotted on the wall of my house. Usually, it can be found around the house, garden, and farm (especially in farm with various members of the bean family).

Notes:

- This moth is from the Crambidae family. Its caterpillar is an agricultural pest, because it feeding inside the developing seedpods of various members of the bean family (Fabaceae) including Beans, Garden Peas, Cowpeas. Thanks Nuwan Chathuranga and Mark Ridgway for the ID.
