Yellow Bellied Water Snake

Nerodia erythrogaster flavigaster

Description:

The Yellow Bellied is a subspecies of the Plainbelly water snake, which are distinguished by having a plain belly. Their back color can be green, grey, brown, or with dark blotches. The juveniles are very patterned, like the one I have pictured here.

Habitat:

They range from Michigan to Delaware in the North, and Texas to North Florida in the South. They are almost always found near a permanent source of water.

Notes:

Found in a pond in a park in my dads neighborhood.
