Sphaerospira fraseri
This native land snail species is quite large, its shell reaching a diameter of up to 56 mm. Unlike this remnant shell spotting, a live specimen shell ranges from a tawny yellow to dark brown base-colour with many black spiral bands and a dark area behind the outer lip. It has a definite 'lip' around the base. Being quite rounded in shape, it also has an elevated spire and a bluish black lip. The animal is a dark grey to brown colour with a grey mantle. Fraser’s Banded Snail can be found living under logs and rocks in rainforest, closed woodland and in some suburban areas that are adjacent to wet forest patches. Next time I hope to find a living specimen. Here's a live spotting from a fellow PN member (ShannaB) - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/227...
Found along the Reservoir Track in the Brisbane Forest Park at Enoggera Reservoir. Thick native bushland vegetation. Recent controlled back-burning fires.
PS: The reference link says "bad request", but please ignore this. It will still take you to the site required, that being the Queensland Museum.
