Yellow-Collared Scape Moth

Cisseps fulvicollis

Description:

Family: Erebidae, Subfamily: Arctiinae, Tribe: Arctiini (Tiger moths) A common day moth. TL 16-20 mm. WS 29-37 mm. Narrow, black/brown FW has yellow streak that extends along basal half of costa. Dull metallic blue thorax has yellow or orange collar. Hosts: Grasses, lichen. Adults feed on nectar of various weeds and flowers such as goldenrod and small white asters.

Habitat:

Meadow and fields abundant in weeds and flowers. This moth was feeding on goldenrod when I extended my finger to it.

Notes:

I mostly see these moths feeding on small white asters during the day, but on occasion it is attracted to light. Last year I saw these moths until November. 3rd photo I have a gardening glove on.
