Great Black-backed Gull, adult nonbreeding

Larus marinus

Description:

Largest gull species in North America. Big and bulky with a white body, black wings, yellow bill and pale pink legs. A juvenile of this species that I spotted on the same day: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/147...

Habitat:

Smith Point County Park, NY. Seashore.

Notes:

I think the individual in the first few pictures may be between 3rd winter and adult or has had damage to his/her beak.
