The Red-tailed hawk is the most common raptor species found throughout North America. They are about45-65cm. in length and 110-145cm. wingspan.

Habitat:

You could very well be right it would make more sense than a Harlan's I didn't see the tail and it certainly looks dark in the picture, however a Harlan's was seen in the same location I got the picture maybe it's a coincidence.

I wonder if this isn't just a dark morph red-tailed hawk. Harlan's hawks have white tails...
