March Fly

Family Tabanidae

Description:

A march fly with golden brown eyes which looked much larger than the thorax. Eyes had little separation suggesting that this was female. Abdominal segments (tergites) were dark fading to a honey-brown. Dense short setae covered the thorax. Legs were brown with dark tarsi.

Habitat:

Spotted under bright lights in a suburban car yard.

Notes:

This fly was probably not feeling too good. Although slow moving, I could not get a shot of her facing me. Still looking for an ID... Probably similar to this fly from the same area http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/147...
