Magnificent Swallowtail

Pterourus garamas syedra

Description:

I came around a corner while walking beside a river in Alpine Cloud forest at 2200 meters, and disturbed this beautiful butterfly mud-puddling. It flew off, stopped for a few seconds, then flew up into the forest. Luckily I got this one shot, of one wing ! It was quite large, the size of a Crimson Rose.

Habitat:

Alpine Cloud Forest at 2200 meters

Thanks bayucca for the ID and the birthday wishes. How can I not have a magnificent day in beautiful CR? Monsoon just started here in the raiforest between San Isidro de El General and Dominical, and everything is so.o.o green.
