Chen caerulescens
A large white goose with black wing tips. The juveniles are slightly smaller and have a gray shading. There is a "blue morph" variant. The body is dark and the head white. The bills have a dark line called a "grinning patch" or "black lips."
First large flock encountered at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. They took flight almost immediately.

It has been interesting this year. We have had a couple of long cold spells, so they come into the fields and then have to move on to feed. Today theere are about 4 to 5 large flocks in the refuge. Love to see them swirl in the sky :)
These are fabulous scenes! Its nice to see so many wild birds thriving!
