Diamond watchman

Valenciennea puellaris

Description:

A goby that grows to a size of 20 centimetres (7.9 in) in length. The head and body are white with orange spots. The Orange Diamond Goby does not have a swim bladder. This is why they spend most of their time in a still position. Swimming will be brief and jerky. The Diamond Watchman Goby uses shallow burrows in the substrate as refuge. It rarely becomes aggressive towards other fish, but is territorial, and will fight with its own kind unless they are a mated pair. In the wild, these gobies form a symbiotic relationship with certain types of pistol shrimp. These shrimp are nearly blind, and the gobies, in exchange for food, will act as a lookout for the shrimp. Popular for aquarium trade.

Habitat:

Indo Pacific.
