Snout Moth

Hednota opulentellus

Description:

This is a crambid moth with a wing span of about 30 mm. Wings were tented over the body and each fore wing showed a single broad buff coloured streak from base to the apex. On either side of this band was a broad white band and streaks of white fanning out to the trailing margin. A thin buff coloured streak was also seen along the white costal margin. Mouth parts were held out like a brush and were a pale colour.

Habitat:

Open grass in a nature reserve.

Notes:

This is a second species of Hednota I have spotted in this area. The first one was Hednota pleniferellus http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/137... Family: Crambidae Subfamily: Crambinae
