Laetiporus portentosus
White Punk is a bracket polypore fungus. Here's the original spotting I made last week of some younger specimens - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/159... I went back to the same area to gather more information so as to accurately ID the spotting. The lead photo is of the largest specimen, and it seems whiter to me than it did last week (compare photos 1 & 2). Last time its surface seemed quite green. The last two photos (3 & 4) are of a specimen that had fallen from the tree. It's in a well-advanced state of decay.
Found in sub-tropical rainforest on the Pitta Circuit in D'Aguilar National Park. Growing on very old Queensland Red Cedar (Toona ciliata) that had been felled in the days of logging prior to this area being established as a national park. Well-shaded, moist area, amongst large native trees and dense lower-level vegetation.
Many thanks to CorduneanuVlad and Mark Ridgway for their ID assistance.

I couldn't help myself. Rain, hail or shine, I was going. I also wanted to catch a glimpse of a (live) Giant Panda Snail too. They are alluding me, but I'll get 'em :)
Well look at that, you went back. Nice photos ;)
