Tiger Moth

Leucanopsis lurida

Description:

Yellow-beige Tiger Moth with gray underwings and abdomen, about 3.5 cm long. The first 4 pictures are of the male which is darker in all aspects, but especially the grey coloring of the underwings and upper abdomen. The last 2 pictures are of the female, notice how much more pale she is. The pictures of the female were taken on 6 November 2012 in about the same place. Family Erebidae, Arctiinae.

Habitat:

Semi-urban area on the outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas. Came to lights in the garden.
