Desert Termite Construction

Description:

"Most desert termites are subterranean although they build conspicuous mud constructions above ground to cover the wooden structures they are consuming. These are not huge mounds like those of the species inhabiting the tropics, but rather simple tubes and sheets made of thin mud that is almost paper-like. Mud tubes are usually seen covering the stems of dry grasses and low vegetation especially after rain." ~ Wildlife in South Sinai by D. Aly and R. Khalil

Habitat:

Spotted on the fallen branches of a caper bush (Capparis) in Wadi GNai
