Pacific Golden Plover

Pluvialis fulva

Description:

Small bird with long legs. Spotted gold, black, and white on the back. Don't seem to stick in groups as this one was alone. They migrate to Hawaii every winter and to Alaska every summer. Consequently, I often see these in the winter. However, once I took a summer trip to Alaska and imagine my surprise when I saw one of these fellows floating on a iceburg! The same bird that walks on Hawaii's grasses floats on Alaskan iceburgs!

Habitat:

Near pro shop on golf course. Mostly open but a good amount of trees. On the edge of a suburb and a rural farm.
