Indigo bunting (male)

Description:

The Indigo bunting is a small songbird in the cardinal family. During the breeding season, the male is a dark vibrant blue with an indigo head. The wings and tail are black with cerulean blue edges. In fall and winter plumage, the male has brown edges to the blue body and head feathers.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Peveto Woods Bird and Butterfly Sanctuary in southern Louisiana.
