Red-breasted Merganser

Mergus serrator

Description:

A large diving duck with a long thin bill, the Red-breasted Merganser is found in large lakes, rivers and the ocean. It prefers salt water more than the other two species of merganser. Cornell Lab

Habitat:

Siesta Key Beach Gulf of Mexico: FL

Notes:

This bird was ashore & obviously very tired...it was able to fly when disturbed by people. I watched it for about an hour and it finally made it back out and started feeding.

Hey...neat article...now I can say "tomia" rather than saw-toothed bill or teeth. Thanks for sharing!
